In NYC, the answer appears to be "yes". A few years ago, I found that in LA ---- the answer is "no". How did I determine this? I took the LA Times "Hot Property Section" and identified the celebrity homes and then found them and compared their sales price per square foot to non-celebrity home sales in the same zip code and same year and month of sale. I found no statistically significant difference in the average sales price per square foot of interior space for celebrity homes versus the average sales price per square foot of interior space for non-celebrity homes.
