As I ready to teach my India Immersion Course, two timely articles on India are available over at Foreign Affairs:
1) The first article, by NYU's Kanchan Chandra, traces out the roots of the BJP's Hindu nationalist agenda. The story is more complicated than it seems. And far from being a recent innovation, it is a deeply rooted ideology. And not one that is attributable only to the BJP, as the article eloquently argues. In fact, the Congress Party has at times toyed with ideas strikingly similar to those espoused by today's BJP.
2) The second article looks at the US-India geopolitical relationship in historical context. Also recommended.
I will keep posting articles and resources on India as the date of the first class - on October 4th - approaches. You may also click the "Indian Economy" link on the left sidebar of this blog to see all past entries relating to India.
