UCLA Anderson’s annual Fully Employed MBA celebration FEMBApalooza is the official welcome event for the newly admitted Class of 2019 students, and it returns this summer on Sunday, July 24. Here are eight reasons why the fifth installment of #FEMBApalooza is not to be missed!
1. Expand your network and meet new people from across the Anderson family.
Twenty-nine years of FEMBAs will unite on campus for this ultimate reunion and networking event. Dickson Plaza will host what is expected to be the largest FEMBApalooza yet, with 900 – 1,000 attendees.
2. Learn about new entrepreneurial ventures by FEMBAs in the Opportunity Zone.
Support FEMBA entrepreneurs who will be on site talking about their companies and offering ways for other FEMBAs to get involved. So far we’ve confirmed Kathleen Hein (’18) of HappinessInk, Oscar Rodriguez (’14) and Hanson Chang (’14) of Reassure Analytics, EpicVisor founders Ed Cho (’13) and Eugene Kim (’11), and the Class of 2016 team behind Petsnap, Matthew Rose, Rex Hatch, Frankie Judy, Isadora Dantas, Rich Headly and Matt Bailey.
3. Work on your tan while hearing from faculty, alumni and current students at Learning on the Lawn.
Professors from a range of disciplines will be giving short lectures on a range of topics. This year’s speakers include: Margaret Shih, Senior Associate Dean; Gonzalo Freixes, Associate Dean; David Cooley, Director of Alumni Career Services; and Paul Brandano, Executive Director of Marketing for GAP. Stay tuned, we’ll announce the topics soon!
4. Perfect photo opportunity with Royce Hall.
Royce Hall houses the center for the art of performance and is one of the four original buildings on the UCLA campus. The Romanesque style building remains the best-known UCLA landmarks, and this is the perfect chance to get that Instagram-worthy photo with this iconic UCLA building. #FEMBApalooza!
5. A family-friendly event for all ages.
While you’re building and reconnecting friendships, watch your kids release all their energy in a bounce house. We’ve scheduled multiple activities that are especially appealing to families. And remember, having fun with the caricaturist, balloons and face painting are not restricted to just the kids.
6. Perfect way to meet your daily steps goal on your pedometer.
Get a little workout by climbing to the top of Janss Steps, a quick and easy 87 stairs! Janss is the original stairway entrance to the university and is named after the Janss brother who sold the land to the university. You may recall seeing the steps in the movies Nutty Professor and Old School.
7. Meet current FEMBAs who will be representing in the Club Zone.
New students will enjoy getting to connect with current FEMBA 2017 and 2018 students and learning about all the activities and programs sponsored by the 50 professional, identity and interest organizations.
8. Important 4 letters: F-R-E-E.
In addition to free admission, you’ll enjoy free UCLA Anderson gear and free food catered by Neli’s. Plus, the free wine and beer garden will showcase a special brew just for FEMBApalooza made by new FEMBA student Diego Benitez (’19), owner of Progress Brewing. Dessert will be provided by alumna Sharon Lee (’15), franchise owner of Yogurtland, and Shreena Grewal (’16), owner of Bites Desserts. Oh, and free parking — which is definitely something to celebrate!
Come hungry and leave full — with connections and knowledge that can’t be gained anywhere else. Be sure to post that selfie using #FEMBApalooza.
