UCLA Anderson Alumni Weekend brings back 1,000+ Anderson alumni for four days of events that include the Alumni Conference, class reunions, executive recruiter networking opportunities, and the ever-popular Alumni Golf Tournament. Events start Thursday, April 30, and continue through Monday, May 4.
New to conference is alumni access to the renovated MBA Lounge, housed in Mullin Management Commons. It’s a space for relaxation with TVs, a view of the North Lawn and ping pong tables for students’ recreation. Plug in or chill out — this lounge is at your disposal on Friday.
We are also eagerly supporting our own: For breakfast at Alumni Conference, we’re serving Stumptown coffee from Alfred's Coffee, a hip, local coffee shop chain owned by alumnus Josh Akhtarzad (’06). And class reunion attendees will enjoy the cocktail candy dessert table provided by Rosie O’Neill’s (’05) Sugarfina.
Launching this week is the first-ever Alumni Weekend app, which will help users navigate Alumni Weekend events via both Apple and Android platforms. It serves as a tool to stay connected to the Anderson community and its features include the schedule, map, class notes, reunions (including throwback photos from students’ days at UCLA Anderson), domestic and international alumni chapter resources, a social feed, videos and information on how to support UCLA Anderson. Download the UCLA Anderson Events app from the Google Play Store or iTunes.
Lonnie Ali (’86), vice chairman of the Muhammad Ali Center Board, is the 2015 John E. Anderson Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. The 2015 Outstanding Alumni Service Award goes to Greg Craig (’89), chairman of Anahau Energy and CEO of Inupiat Energy Partners. Dean Judy D. Olian and Senior Associate Dean Al Osborne will present the 2015 Alumni Awards.
This year’s business conference features a keynote address by Craig Kreeger (’85), CEO of Virgin Atlantic Airways. Panels and breakout sessions cover a wide range of topics, such as “Digital Media: Building Engagement for Your Brand,” with Stephanie Bohn (’03), head of marketing and partnerships at Flixster, Rotten Tomatoes, and WB Digital; and Alexandra Bronk (’07), head of global operations and production at YouTube Spaces. On the subject of the “Evolution of Disruptive Innovators” we feature innovative disruptors Trish Halamandaris (’92), SVP of marketing and communications at the XPRIZE Foundation; Michelle Mathis Weil (’05), director of marketing at Funny or Die; and Hans Yang (’05), VP of operations at Luxe Valet.
Central to the 2015 conference is a discussion of the global health crisis, which a panel of alumni will address in terms of how it must be managed going forward. Anderson Professor Emeritus Victor Tabbush moderates a conversation among: Hugh Chang (’90), director of strategy, planning and management at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Tim Elliott (’04), founder and managing director of Amplify Markets; Erin Eriksson (’08), executive director of the Americas programs at M.A.C. AIDS Fund; and Dr. Rekha Murthy of the Cedars-Sinai Hospital Epidemiology Department.
The hot topic “Internet of Things: Enabling Innovation Through Collaboration” features alumni Sunny Choi (’01), VP of corporate development at Belkin International; Shane Dewing, senior director of product management at Qualcomm Connected Experience; Mark Spates, head of the Smart Home Platform at Logitech; and Nathan Williams (’05), chief revenue officer and head of business development for August Home Inc.
Join the Anderson alumni community to enjoy these Alumni Weekend events, as well as annual favorites like Dean Olian’s “State of the School” address and the UCLA Anderson Forecast presentation by Professor Ed Leamer.
