UCLA Anderson Dean Judy Olian and Professor Randy Bucklin, chairman of the faculty, are pleased to announce that member Paola Giuliano has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure, effective July 1, 2015. Giuliano received a Ph.D. in economics from UC Berkeley in 2003 and was an economist at the International Monetary Fund from 2003 to 2008. She joined the UCLA Anderson faculty in 2008 as an assistant professor in the Global Economics and Management (GEM) area.
Giuliano is a leader in the field of cultural economics. Her widely cited research tackles socially relevant questions, such as the historical roots of gender inequality and the cultural origins of family living arrangements, and reveals surprising implications regarding female labor participation and residential decisions, respectively. Another notable finding in Giuliano’s research is how macroeconomic shocks in individuals’ formative years adversely affect their beliefs and attitudes toward redistributive policies and government.
Giuliano helped develop the required core course in economics, which she has taught across Anderson’s various MBA programs, along with an elective course in Global Macroeconomy. She also works closely with doctoral students and mentors incoming students in the GEM area.
Please join us in congratulating Giuliano on the wonderful news of her promotion.
Great professor, had a wonderful time in her class.
