On Tuesday, March 24, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), chair of the Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security, will convene a hearing titled Unmanned Aircraft Systems: Key Considerations Regarding Safety, Innovation, Economic Impact, and Privacy. Among the witnesses scheduled to give testimonial is John Villasenor, UCLA professor of electrical engineering and public policy and a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
Villasenor is teaching a spring quarter course at Anderson for the Easton Technology Leadership Program, where he also conducted a workshop on Bitcoin. The spring course, Intellectual Property for Technology Entrepreneurs and Managers, is included in Easton’s Current Topics: Emerging Technologies and Markets portfolio of seminar courses.
Villasenor is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Cybersecurity, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and an affiliate at the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at Stanford.
The Tuesday hearing will examine broadly the potential beneficial uses for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and the efforts of the Federal Aviation Administration on safe integration of UAS in the National Airspace System. It will also explore potential privacy concerns associated with this emerging technology.
