On Thursday, January 8, 2015, UCLA Anderson welcomes for the first time a campus-sized version of the acclaimed CES (previously called the Consumer Electronics Show). CES @ Anderson is being presented by Anderson’s Easton Technology Leadership Program (ETLP) in association with the school’s High Tech Business Association, a student organization with more than 450 members and considered “the gateway to the high-tech industry for UCLA Anderson students.” The focus of this event is on new technologies and learning about them through talks, panels and keynotes as well as Technology Tables. The themes of the event include the Internet of Things, Wearables, Robotics, Virtual Reality and Connected Cars.
“The interest in technology among the students at Anderson has been growing over the past few years,” says Dr. Vandana Mangal, executive director of the ETLP. “Students with technical and non-technical backgrounds have been successfully transitioning into the technology sector, with over a quarter of the students being placed in the tech sector last year.”
“Because of their growing interest in technology management,” says Professor Guillaume Roels, faculty director of the ETLP, “our MBA students have expressed a strong desire to learn more about emerging technologies across various industries. The Easton Technology Leadership Program and the High Tech Business Association have worked together to showcase many new technologies developed on campus and in the industry, through startups and large global corporations.”
Mangal adds, “CES is among the primary technology events that our students are interested in attending to learn about technology developments, from the enterprise perspective and in terms of their future careers, as well as from a personal perspective, to learn about technology developments, with consumers making the technology decisions today. But not everyone is able to attend the event in Las Vegas, hence CES @ Anderson.”
A conversation with UCLA Anderson Board of Visitors member Janice Chaffin (’81), former group president of Symantec Corporation’s Consumer Business Group, is one of the highlights of the day’s activities.
"We're excited to have Ms. Chaffin join us for a conversation to close the event, where she will discuss lessons learned from her extensive career as well as the topic of security in our increasingly connected and data-driven lives," says Katie Jones ('15), one of the student organizers of the event.
