In the latest collaboration between the UCLA Anderson Forecast and the City of Los Angeles, the Forecast has partnered with Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office to help launch a new online open data portal that seeks to create transparency and accountability in city government. This web portal, called DataLA, acts as a central resource for anyone seeking data about the city — from jobs and the economy, to public safety, quality of life and government efficiency.
“Our new Open Data portal gives residents access to the same information as their elected officials,” Garcetti said in an official statement for the May 31 launch. “With this new tool, academics, developers, journalists and anyone with an interest in Los Angeles can access a one-stop treasure trove of information that was previously scattered across city websites if it was available at all."
To help the city provide the public the most accurate employment data on the DataLA portal, Economist William Yu worked closely with the mayor’s office to develop the “UCLA Anderson Forecast Los Angeles City Monthly Employment Estimate,” which shows household employment and payroll employment data, updated monthly. Learn more about the methodology behind the employment numbers here.
