Angelica Gutierrez (Riordan Fellow 2006, Ph.D. 2012) has been featured in this blog before. In 2011, we profiled her the research as a Ph.D. candidate that delved into legacy and affirmative action admissions policies (a topic that remains in the news as California considers a new law that would alter Proposition 209). Next, we noted that Gutierrez had been named a "Next Generation Latina" by Latina magazine.
Gutierrez' life and work continue to inspire, as evidenced by her profile (see above) that aired on KABC's Vista L.A. program in February and selection as one of 20 Hispanicize Positive Impact Award winners. The award, according to the group's website, was "created as homage to the late Louis Pagan, co-founder of Hispanicize and well-known social media entrepreneur, who passed away suddenly in February 2013. Louis was widely known for his kindness and commitment to giving the community a voice through his vast social media networks. In the same way, the Positive Impact Awards recognize those who contribute selflessly for the betterment of their community." As a winner of the Positive Impact Award, Gutierrez is also now nominated for "Person of the Year" recognition. Readers may support Gutierrez' nomination here.
At present, Gutierrez is an assistant professor of management at Loyola Marymount University's College of Business Administration, where her research interests include diversity and inclusion in universities and in the workplace, gender and cultural differences in negotiations, and employee recruitment, selection and retention policies and practices.
