A UCLA Anderson Applied Management Research Program group doing research in Hawassa, Ethiopia, is crowdsourcing their efforts to continue advising a local oncology unit on a path to economic sustainability. The group of five second-year MBA students has completed their initial research, but still has work left to do. Project scope includes researching how community health care leaders and the local business community can work together to provide cancer care with less dependence on outside support and funding.
The AMR team will continue their work throughout the 2014-15 academic year, delving further into funding issues such as hospital personnel and salary, supplies, patient and family housing and medications.
UCLA Spark is the new university sponsored crowdfunding platform designed “to fuel ideas that change our world.” After successful beta testing, the site officially launched Feb 18. Currently, five projects are seeking funding, including the Anderson AMR team, a push to preserve the Watts Towers and more.
