Sebastian Edwards urges economic reform to Chile

Sebastian Edwards, the Henry Ford II Professor of International Business Economics at UCLA Anderson, recently spoke with Chile's El Mercurio about the economic challenges facing that country. Below, we translate some of Edwards's key points:

Our conversations are trivial in relation to the challenges that the country faces.

 

It’s inevitable that in the coming years we’ll see a downturn.

 

If we don’t increase productivity at an accelerated pace, we’re condemned to the mediocrity of the lower [economic] divisions.

 

There will be greater inflationary pressures, but these won’t be high enough so as to enter into a system of credit restrictions.
